We had our athletics fundraising breakfast this morning. Good food and a great guest speaker. It was an amazing time despite being a little tired from last night…
The guest speaker at the breakfast was Ken Venturi, which was very special for us golfers. He was a very successful golfer in the mid 1900′s, including winning the 1964 US Open in a 36 hole playoff. He was good friends with such people as Byron Nelson, Frank Sinatra, and many others. He was actually room-mates with Sinatra for 5 years. He had amazing stories to tell and his speech was very inspiring. He had issues as a young kid, including a severe speech impediment which his teacher said he would never get away from.
When he got home later that day, he told his mom what the teacher said, and his mom asked ”What are you going to do about it?” He told her that he was going to take up ”the loneliest sport he could find” and he walked to the golf course 2 miles from his home and hit balls for the first time. He used the rhythm of the golf swing to learn how to speak which is amazing in itself. Not to mention the amazing success he had as an amateur and professional golfer. Here are some of the quotes he had today:
”Every day you miss practicing, it will take you that much longer to get good”
”When you are as good as you are, you can tell everyone, but when you get really good, people will tell you”
”The world won’t remember you for what you take from it, but rather what you leave behind”
”Not everyone can win, but we can all be winners”
”You don’t have to be better than everyone else, you just have to be better than you thought you ever would be”
These are some great words to live by.
Just arrived at Bear Mountain in Victoria (the island outside vancouver) where Brandon, Shane and I are spending Easter week. Looking forward to a good relaxing but busy weekend playing golf and hanging out with good friends.
Vi hörs och ses!
Fler bilder imorgon! Något fel med bilduppladningen!
